Termly Overview Term 4

What a fabulous bunch!

How proud are we all of this fantastic class? They are so up for anything with a sniff of DRAMA.

Fabulous acting by all. Especially Ava!

Thank you so much for coming along to our show. Have a terrific holiday!

Lots of work and FUN!

First we PVA'd our African style masks to make them shiny and sort the broken bits!

We played 'The Noisy Game' again, but this time using tables instead of adding the cards.

For World Maths Day we measured to see if this Old Wife's Tale is true..."Twice round your wrist is once round your neck, twice round your neck, is once round your waist!" (I personally found it to be a load of old rubbish...... the waist part particularly - hee hee) but it seemed to work with the children!

The Red Nose Day activities in the hall were a lot of fun. Thank you to all of you for your donations.

Finally, huge congratulations to Angus M. Two golds, a silver and a bronze in gymnastics in Livingston. Well done! And check those socks!

Beautiful daffodils.

Our photographer this time is Cameron.

What a performance!

We have been focusing this week on getting our show ready for the performance on the 27th. If we don't have it semi ready, I can't sleep at night! So we'll get it to 'nearly there' this week, then back to our usual timetable next week!

We had a lovely time on World Book Day. The hot chocolate went down well. Grace is our photographer.

And some of our girls held the second Book Club this week.

I don't know how much the children actually wrote! But they had great fun being bossy!

More hard work and fun in P5A...

We were designing masks on Thursday for the African project.

Then we had to make them. Tricky as it is air drying clay that drys quite quickly!

We completed our lovely snowdrop pictures too!

They look AMAZING! Have a super weekend.

What a busy week!!!!

As a School of Sanctuary we made a display with words of encouragement for child refugees in our country.

We also wrote part of our play about the kitchen simulation!

We have been looking at common contractions in spelling, so we tried this tricky puzzle...

Our wonderful fiddle players are rehearsing as part of our African Orchestra.

Two champions this week!!!!!

The fabulous Janet for Highland Dancing. First place overall in her age group...

...and the wonderful Grace, who is going this weekend to an award ceremony in London as a finalist in a short story competition! Good Luck Grace!!!!

Have a super holiday!

Woohoo!

We have a date! Sorry for the delay but there are a lot of factors to consider when you are planning something in a school.

The 27th March at 9:00am in the gym hall for our African Showcase.

The children have been working hard dancing, singing and dramaing(!) so hopefully it will be a lot of fun. Anyone who wants to come is welcome.

Our simulation was really interesting, and I'm sure the children will write a very funny play for you.

Lots to do!

Mrs P

Photos at last!

I've got a lead now that helps me to transfer the photos. Yay!

We have real letters from Africa! They were very interesting.

African patterns influenced our pictures.

We learned how to say personal details in French using a game...

... and we collected leaves (RAW DATA) so that we could organise them into a graph.

I had such a fun time tricking the children with our simulation, and it definitely had 'impact'! I think we have a lot of material to write our play!

Have a great weekend!

Christmas Fun!

Christmas is now in full swing and the children are dialled up to 11! We had such a fun day with our mammoth walk to the town centre (no complaints at all, really!!!!) and our fabulous singing. Pictures to follow. Thank you so much for your support. It was so lovely to see so many Lochardil relatives there. Very cheery. I'm having problems with my phone, but I will put photos on as soon as I get someone techy on to it!

Meanwhile, let me share some of the photos from our party last week. What a lot of fun was had by all. They were so well behaved and the dancing was hilarious!

In class we have been making wonderful Christmas newspapers with funny stories...

Then we made snowflakes for a 'WINTER' display in the corridor...and I promise they won't still be hanging there in June!

What a Titanic Day!

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our fun day with such enthusiasm! We were so thrilled that you all seemed to be having a good time and that we didn't have to lock anyone in! For anyone who couldn't make it, here are some pictures of the school small kitchen's transformation to a cabin on the Titanic!

The decorators made such a good job of it. Well done you guys! We had the clues which were very devious but clever ...and not TOO hard... Great job clue makers!

The children were very excited to see the adults having a go.

The adults were just delighted to get out in one piece!

Well done Max for doing so well in karate!

Super Achievements!

Angus was a superstar in gymnastics...

Kirstie from the RSPCA came and we had a lot of fun playing the guess the animal/guess the danger game.

Janet came second and got a huge trophy!

What a productive week! Lots going on...

Shona was a fabulous model as we named parts of the body in French.

We did a thorough litter pick around the school. 11 bags full!!!

Dressing up for Children in Need was so much fun.

We did the Joe Wicks' Workout too...

Finally we visited the wonderful P5Bs stalls for Children in Need.

Have a great weekend!

Matilda was FAB!

We had such a super trip to the cinema. No resemblance at all...

We pretended to be Film Critics, where our editor had only given us 100 words to write a review. No more, no less!

Scott did really well in his Kung fu this week.

And we are continuing to make lots of interesting items for our Escape Room!

Have a lovely weekend!

Fun week with Feis and Hallowe'en!

Liam from Feis Rois was with us again and helping us to create a song as a class. I don't know how he does it!

We've been very busy these past two weeks. Spotting hidden buttons to practise prepositions...

Working on Escape Room things...

Mental arithmetic games...

And scary cats for Hallowe'en!

I'll attach the Termly Overview here. Have a great weekend!

Termly Overview Term 2

Have a SUPER holiday!

Marty was a big hit in the p4 classes, and the children enjoyed showing them how to work him.

They were making 3D shapes with Mr Garden too.

See you when we get back!

Big thanks!

Dear parents/carers,

Thank you so much to all who could make it to see the children today. It was so lovely to meet you.

A couple of things. Firstly there is no homework on the first and last weeks of term, so please don't worry about it. Secondly, we didn't get the Escape Room finished, as it has been a bit of a squeeze getting everything fitted in this term, BUT we will definitely get it finished for the first part of the next term, and I'll let you know in plenty of time, so you can book a slot!

Finally, we are watching The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe this week, as we have finished the book. It is a PG film, I think because it has a battle scene, but in the scenes you don't ever see anyone being actually killed or even any blood, (only turned to stone by the witch!) and Lucy's potion brings them back to life anyway.

If you would prefer your child not to watch a PG can you please let me know, and I'll make other arrangements.

Thank you so much for your support this term. They are a lively bunch of delightful children, and that is just how we like 'em!

Thank you,

Mrs P and Mr G

Lots of work and play!

This week started off with finding key information in texts with Mr Garden, as the children had to examine reading in their environment. This included texts found in the food cupboard!

We were learning how to do really tricky subtraction sums...

And we enjoyed fun shenanigans all about keeping the beat and rhythm with Liam from the Feis.

Finally we had fun during Fun 31! Always the dressing up box/corner is a big hit!

What a dramatic (and musical!) time we have had!

We are happy to report that our visiting specialist from Feis Rois is the fabulous Liam Ross! He can play millions of tunes on his guitar, and he has a lot of musical information to help us understand traditional Scottish music. The children were very good at spotting the difference between a jig and a reel, but Mrs Prentice was a disaster, and got it wrong every time!

For our new Key Assessment Task (now renamed HQAT High Quality Assessment Task) we are going to be looking at some of the characters in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and thinking about how we share some of their characteristics. So this week we went outside in the beautiful weather and reenacted some of the scenes so far. The children threw themselves into it with gusto!

Finally, let me introduce our new Classroom Representatives.

Health Promoter - Archie Porter

Unikids - Aila Glass

Junior Road Safety Officer - Andrew Barnett

Pupil Council - Janet Hall and Gracie Baldwin

Last but not least, ECO rep - Cameron Hutcheson

Thank you guys for volunteering. Have a great weekend everyone!

A busy week!

We were tasting Turkish Delight (the Cadbury's one) this week, because Edmund has it in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. What a performance! It splits the crowd like Marmite. I'm glad we had paper towels for spitting it out!

There was a murder in the classroom! Turns out Humpty Dumpty was pushed off the wall by dastardly Mr Grant!!!! Luckily he left us lots of clues to work out.

Well done to Jackson, Rhu and Oscar for working out the culprit first.

Swimming this week was fun too!

The bus is the best bit. Have a super weekend!

Hello and welcome to P5A blog!

In this blog I'll post pictures most weeks of all that we're up to in P5A. I will attach our termly overview at the end of the blog too. A word of caution about using gmail to get in touch with me. A communication can go astray as I get an email every time the children comment on anything at all on google classroom, so your message may be swamped. However, either emailing the school, who will pass it onto me, or just calling directly and leaving your number, means I can get back to you asap. Thank you.

We started last week with a bit of drama. We were recreating snapshots from our holidays. I particularly liked the girls who were scratching from the dreaded midges!

We tried some desk drumming with mixed results. It's something that gets better and better with practice.

Mr Garden did some cool 2D shape work with the children.

And we were trying to get the best adjectives that we could for two contrasting pieces of writing.

On Thursday the M and M Theatre Company delighted us all with Oliver!
