Fantastic Mr Fox

P2 Board Game Designers

We have started designing our own Mr Fox board games. We hope to share these with you at the open morning on Wednesday!

We had some special visitors today from the IRA.  The visit was part of a paired reading initiative for Literacy Development .  Some children from S2 came to share stories they had created and read them to us in small groups, both inside and outside the classroom.  We had so much fun that we forgot to take photographs!  

In the afternoon we were so inspired that we decided we wanted to become authors ourselves and spent some time drawing//writing and sharing the short stories that we had created with the class.  I hope you enjoy looking at the photos.

The Life Cycle of a Dragonfly

We have been  finding out all the life cycle of dragonflies. We are making our own dragonflies with finger print wings!

Appearance and Personality

We listened to "The Snail and the Whale" by Julia Donaldson. We then talked about the difference between appearance and personality. 

We are working on our snail spirals with super adjectives and patterns!

Growing Granny!

We are enjoying reading "George's Marvellous Medicine"

Granny started to grow after George gave her the medicine. We are making our own growing Granny - we made the body this afternoon. Hopefully we will finish our creations tomorrow.

Coronation

To mark the historical event of the New King’s coronation, everyone can choose to wear red, white or blue colours on Friday 5th May or dress up as royalty for the day (King, Prince, Queen, Princess etc) .

 All classes have been asked to design some coronation bunting that could be displayed in the hall and around our school for this day. 

We started work on our bunting this afternoon

We have begun finding out all about Ramadan. We read "Lailah's Lunchbox" which told us all about the Muslim month of fasting.

Today we started our first tennis session. Andrew was our tennis coach.

British Science Week - the theme is “connections" this year.

We were finding out all about racing cars and how they move We had a go at designing our own vehicles.

Puppets Everywhere in P2!

We have made our own puppets for James and the Giant Peach. This afternoon we are making the scenery so we can perform our own puppet shows.

We will be taking home our puppets today to share with our families.

We enjoyed an online ceilidh session this morning!  We really enjoyed listening to the music and tried to keep the beat!

Mr Goose (Risk and Resilience)

We started a story about Mr Goose. This tells the story of a loveable character called Mr Goose and all the risks he faces living on the river. Despite all the challenges he never gives up! 

We discussed  worries and how it’s ok to have them but very important to find ways we can cope with them.

We created our own Mr Goose characters using chalks. Next time we are going to add all the animal characters he meets on his adventures.

Valentine's Value (Love) 

As a school of sanctuary with love as a core value, this is an opportunity for our pupils to take action for a better world and have their voices heard. All classes were asked to make orange hearts  (the symbol for solidarity with refugees) to display in our windows. We wrote messages of support on them.

6-12 February- Children’s Mental Health Week -  This year’s theme is Let’s Connect

We have been finding out different ways to help look after our mind as well as out body.

With a partner we made a list of strategies to try if ever we are worried.

Safer Internet Day Tuesday 7th February

Today we watched ‘Hanni and the Magic Window’  Hanni has a magic window at home but when she sees something that upsets her, she

struggles to explain what has happened. ‘Hanni and the Magic Window’ can be found at:childnet.com/hanni

These stories are designed to kickstart conversations about life online.They focus on recognising positive uses of technology and recognising when to get help with a worry or concern. 

We designed our own magic windows but with a lovely view outside.

Tomorrow we will continue our work on Internet Safety

We worked on our Topic this morning.  We were learning what kind of foods make a healthy meal.

We then created our own dinner plate to share our learning.

Data Collection - We did a survey in this morning to collect data on the most popular eye colour in the class.  

The most popular colour in P2 was blue!

We are meeting all the insects in James and the Giant Peach. You will be able to see our amazing wall display in the corridor when you come along for the parent interviews next week.

We are using an atlas to find the Arctic North Pole and the South Pole in Antarctica. We also found the Equator and some of the hot countries.

We also saw how the world moves using a globe.

Dear Parent/Carer,

Primary 6B are organising a variety of stalls, games and activities to take place on Friday the

18th of November to raise money for Children in Need. Friday the 18th will also be a 'Dress

Down Day' for a suggested donation of £1. All contributions are voluntary.

There will be a bake sale, so any donations of home baking would be greatly appreciated too.

Please bring any donations to school on or before the 18 th of November. Whilst we will not

declare that any cakes sold at the bake sales are free from allergens, we would be grateful if

any donations are accompanied by a written list of any UK recognised allergens present. All

information that you can provide would be really helpful for reducing allergy risks. The 14

recognised allergens in the UK are:

● Celery

● Cereals containing gluten (such as barley or oats)

● Crustaceans (such as prawns, crabs and lobsters)

● Eggs

● Fish

● Milk

COP27

COP27  – the 27th United Nations Climate Change conference, to be held from 6th to 18th November 2022 in Sharm ElSheikh, Egypt.

As part of the learning in the run up to COP27 the school is participating in the ‘Art for Action COP27’ campaign to use our voice on climate action change.

We decided to look at how global warming was affecting wildlife such as polar bears. Our art display has amazing polar bears and these will be on display within Highland Council - but don't worry we will get them back.

Autumn Art


We were learning about Pointillism today and used this to create some of our own beautiful Autumn leaves.  

We learned that an artist called George Seurat developed this technique by using small painted dots to create areas of colour that then create an image.

Rangoli Patterns

Rangoli patterns are bright, colourful and beautiful designs that are associated with Diwali. They are placed to welcome the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi - the goddess of wealth - to your house and are thought to bring good luck. They started in India but appear wherever Hindu people are celebrating.

This afternoon we had an Animalwise workshop from the SSPCA. Kirsty showed us some pretend rabbits that could move about.

A strange envelope arrived in our class today. Inside was a letter from Plop the owl asking for our help. We are going to get another letter tomorrow telling us more information.

We are all so excited and wonder what is going to happen...........
