We had our final coaching session with Steven from Bellfield Tennis Club! He said we were brilliant and that he would be in touch very soon to share some Easter Tennis Coaching sessions that are taking place in the holidays!
It is Science Week this week and in order to celebrate we took part in the BBC Live Lesson with a British AStronaut Time Peake. We learned so much about what it takes to become an astronaut. We also learned how astronauts eat, work out and go to the loo in space!
We celebrated World Book Day this week by having a fun dress down day at school! We also took part in the Footy and Booky Quiz online, as well as the BBC Live Lesson to mark World Book Day in style! Of course world book day wouldn't be right without us spending time sharing our love for reading by taking in our favourite books from home to read together!
We had a wonderful trip to Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre this week as part of our Jacobites topic. It was a very windy day but we learned so much! We learned about 4 people who lived during that time and two of them actually lived in nearby Moy! We also got to do our very own Highland Charge!
To celebrate Mars Day 2025 we took part in making our own martian rovers and learned about what it takes to be an astronaut travelling to the moon and back to earth!
We visited the travelling Book Fair which is set up in the Ikea wing of the school this week. Lots of us purchased some fabulous reading books and all purchases go towards some free books for our school!
We invited both Primary 2 classes to play the magnetic games we have made during our science topic on Magnetism this term! Everyone had so much fun!
Steven from Bellfield Tennis Club came to give us an fun packed coaching session. We had a basic introduction to Tennis and worked well with each other in partners.
We had Ana from UHI STEAM Hub return to visit us to teach us all about our senses! We took part in lots of fun experiments and learned lots of fascinating facts about our bodies!
We celebrated World Thinking Day by wearing our Girl Guide, Scout and Cadet uniforms to school!
We were lucky to have a second, more advanced, session of Microbits programming this week, from Ana at the UHI STEAM Hub. We made lovely beating hearts to make St Valentine's Day, as well as making melodies and even our own shaking dice programmes!
We have been learning about the features of the Jacobite flags used during the uprising. We worked out which ones were symmetrical and identified how many lines of symmetry were in each one. We also used our learning to design our very own symmetrical Jacobite targes!
We took part in a BBC Teach Live Lesson to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2025! The theme was all about Scammers and what we can do to stay safe online from lots of different types of scams. We also learned how to make unique, complicated passwords to help keep our accounts safe.
As part of Children's Mental Health week we linked the characters of the Disney Pixar movie 'Inside Out' to our Emotion Works cogs. We also used the film to identify our own Personality Islands which are created from our past memories, emotions, life experiences and passions. We had lots of discussion sharing what personalities islands we had in common and what islands were completely unique to us, which is something to be celebrated!
We took part in Storytelling Week 2025 by joining in with the National Literacy Trust online workshop. We managed to meet a famous children's author called Tola Ogokwu who has written the popular Oneyka storybook series! Tola gave us three story prompts (Person, Place and Problem) to help us make up our own superpowered person for our own stories!
We had a wonderful walk to and from Eden Court on Wednesday to go and see the RSNO - Sounds of the Deep Orchestra! We were taken on a nautical adventure from Scotland to the icy waters of Greenland looking for treasure, only to realise the treasure we have is not in prized possessions but the people and loved ones around us in our lives!
We had a lovely treat this week from SHIMKA which provided us with a wonderful Chinese dance troupe from Glasgow, who performed the 'Dance of the Lion' to welcome in the Chinese New Year! The music was very loud and the performers underneath the lion costume were only 6 years old!
Continuing with work on French months of the year, we created beautiful birthday cards for people we know!
We have been busy making multiplication wheels in a flower format for all of the timestables up to 12! We hope to use these flower multiplication wheels to help us get even quicker at our recall of multiplication facts!
We have been doing lots of map work this week whilst learning about the route the Jacobites took in 1745. We couldn't believe they walked from Inverness all the way to Derby and then retreated all the way back to Culloden!
We have been learning the days of the week since the start of this third term and have now moved onto learning the French months of the year this week! We realised that there were a lot of similarities between all the French months and our own!

We started the week off with a special visitor from UHI. Ana came to teach us about computer algorithms and how to program micro:bits using our chromebooks and the micro:bit software! We had so much fun that we have asked Ana if she would come back to do some more work with us soon!
We opted to take our Fun 31 time outdoors this week to make the most of the snow! Lots of fun was had by all...even the teachers!
We have been busy working on different multiplication strategies this week. Here we are identifying the times tables we find most tricky and taking on the challenge of learning them! We have been using the strategy of grouping in multiplication and then creating simple multiplication sentences to form our tricky times tables! We will conquer the challenging ones in no time! Well done everyone
We have started a new writing topic this week which will be all about our National Animal in Scotland - The Unicorn! We will be find out all about the unicorn and eventually be creating some of our own within our writing. However, this week we were excited to create our very own mythical beasts as part of our writing!
We kicked our last week of term 2 off in style with our Primary 4 Christmas Party! We had so much fun and such a wonderful time all together!
We had a super end to the week by coming to school in our festive jumpers and had a delicious Christmas lunch together! We pulled some crackers before our lunch too! Much fun had by all!
We have been working hard on fractions in maths the past few weeks. We have been adding and subtracting simple fraction word problems with a Christmas theme and here we are showing our knowledge of simplifying fractions to create beautiful Christmas Cards.
As part of our continuing Cura Guardian project, we have been learning about Hawk Dragonflies and why it is unusual to see them in our area and why they are moving further and further north as a result of global warming and changing climates. We have made beautiful Dragonfly poems with watercolour paintings to match! Aboslutely stunning work!
We have been using our brains to work out some tricky problem solving clues! Santa was in need of a reserve reindeer as Rudolph was not feeling so well. We needed to solve the clues to work out which reindeer Santa picked as a replacement!
One of Santa's elves has come through our magical elf door in Primary 4! We are ever so excited to have him join us for the rest of the term and we have named him Buddy!
We have been learning about the American and Canadian celebration of Thanksgiving. We have learned why the two countries celebrate at slightly different times of the year. We also felt very sorry for the poor turkeys at this time of year, so we made our turkeys in disguise and had so much fun!
We have been learning about the patron saint of Scotland, St Andrew. We learned about the story of St Andrew and why our Scottish Saltire flag is the shape it is! Here are our finished St Andrew's Day dioramas on display.
The Scottish Book Trust gave us the opportunity to meet the famous illustrator Axel Scheffler where we found out about his latest book that he has been working on with Julia Donaldson, titled 'Jonty Gentoo'. We even got the chance to learn from the master himself and draw our own Gruffalos!

A lovely way to end the week by raising lots of money for Children in Need! We had a dress down day and took part in lots of fun activities being run by the Ashie House Captains!
We took part in celebrating the Into Film Festival this week by attending Vue Cinema to watch the film 'Migration'. We had so much fun and reallty enjoyed watching the film together. Huge thank you to all of our lovely parent volunteers who can to help look after us!
We have been learning all about Remembrance Day this week and the siginificance of the Red Poppy. We created beautiful sunset gradients with paint and accompanied this with poignant Remembrance Day silhouettes.

We have been learning about the Gunpowder Plot and the reasons behind why we celebrate Bonfire Night. We found out about all 5 conspirators and why they believed this was a good idea to do at the time. We even looked into whether the plot would have been successful if they had not been found out and found this very interesting indeed! Here we are making our own Bonfire Night artworks for display.
We had a wonderful time learning about lots of native fish species by joining in live online to the Macduff Marine Centre as part of the Digital Science Festival. We learned lots of facts that we are excited to share with you all! Star fish eyes are at the end of their legs and you count the number of rings inside fish ears to tell how old they are! The Marine Centre is getting refurbished at the moment and is due to reopen with a brand new cafe in early 2026!
We have made a start on making our Egg Drop Challenge designs a reality this week! We may be raiding our cupboards at home for some extra cushioning to protect our eggs from gravity taking its toll!
We have been learning about the history of Halloween this week! We learned where Halloween and its name originally came from. We now know where the idea of dressing up at Halloween came from as well as the tradition of making Jack-O-Lanterns! Did you know that the lanterns weren't always pumpkins but actually turnips!?? We now understand where trick or treating came from too - so Halloween wasn't always about sweets and tricking our neighbours! 😁🤣
We have cleverly tied in our learning about Halloween with a famous Russian Painter called Wassily Kadinsky, who did the very famous concentric circles art work. We cannot wait to show you some of our finished designs using Halloween colours of course!
We completed some KWL grids related to what we already know about our term 2 topic on 'Seasonal Celebrations' and what we wish to find out! This will help plan what learning we wish to cover in this massive interdisciplinary learning topic! We will fill in what we learn as we progress through the topic during the course of this term.
It was lovely to see so many of you in our classroom this week for our termly open session! Primary 4 and I had a wonderful morning speaking with you all and talking about some of the learning we have been doing in class.
We have two sporting stars to celebrate this week who took part in a Judo Grand Prix and a Football Tournament at the weekend!! Well done!
We are using all of our learning about forces from this term to help us to create a design that will protect an egg from breaking when it is launched from a height in our school playground!! Here we are working in our groups to make up our fancy and technical designs. We may be asking for some recyclable materials that we have from home to bring in to class. Lots of excitement in the Primary 4 class about this challenge!
All of our hard work finally paid off on Friday when we managed to run a very successful and very well received whole school fundraiser! A lovely way to end the week and almost end the first term of Primary 4! Thank you to all who kindly donated money and time to make the delicious baking treats we received! We have found out the grand total riased for the day being a massive £618 which is such a fantastic achievement! We will be using this money to go towards buying Lochardil branded merchandise to sell to our local community when we celebrate our official birthday in November!
We took part in an amazing Author's Live Session where we got to learn about the author and illustrator, Rob Biddulph. He told us how he got started being an awesome author and illustrator. He also gave us two sneak peaks into two of his new books coming out in the next couple of weeks. We took part in a draw along making cute little Rhinos with top hats on!
Continuing with our Cura Guardian work...we have been learning about Aboriginal paintings and created our own aboriginal dot painting backgrounds for our fabulous rainbow serpents to slither on! These art pieces will combine with the talk for writing work we are already doing with this fabulous Aboringinal Dreaming Story. We had so much fun using a range of art mediums between paint, chalk pastels and brand new oil pastels!
We have had so much fun learning shooting and dribbling skills in Uni-hoc with Mr Garden on the school MUGA pitch this week. I had a hard job trying to get lots of action shots as you were all moving so fast!!

As part of our Cura Guardian Project this term, we have been learning about the Aboriginal Dreaming Story called, 'The Rainbow Serpent'. Here we are turning the main events from the dreaming story into a storyboard format linking in with our Talk for Writing Programme we use in school.
We have been learning about the different types of forces that are present in our lives in our science learning this week.
We joined forces with our neighbours in P4/5 this week to create stall signs and a list of resources we would need to make our fundraising stalls a success. We plan to hold our fundraising event on Friday 4th October! We hope to have a dress down day as well as lots of fun stalls for the whole school to have fun!

We have been enjoying reading the novel titled, 'The Last Bear' by Hannah Gold in class. We have been working extremely hard on our Health and Wellbeing, High Quality Assessment Tasks ready to share with you at home in a few weeks! We have been linking the very strong emotions that our main character is feeling with our Emotion Works Programme that we use in school. We are very proud of our work so far and cannot wait to show and discuss our masterpieces with you at home!
We have been working hard making badger mosaics as part of our Cura Guardian project. We looked into the origins of mosaics and how they are usually made out of broken pieces of tile. We then adapted them into our own Lochardil style!
Our first pupils of the month at our celebration assembly is Piper for being a Sudoku super star and Sophie for having wonderful original ideas in her story writing!! Well done girls and keep up the good work!
Our Primary 4 star of the week goes to someone who has been kindly inviting peers to sit with friends at lunch time so they are never eating alone! What a great role model for others, well done Harriet!
We have been learning about a different strategy to add large numbers this week - The Split Strategy! We turned a bit rebellious and did our work on our desks!!! But do not fret it was only whiteboard pens but we had so much fun working out the steps to the addition sums! We are even managing to reduce the amount of steps and calculate more in our head! Super stars!!
We teamed up with P3/4 this week to make a joint Transient Art Project. Here we are making our very own giant Cura Badger as part of our Cura Guardian work, using outdoor loose parts that we could find in our playground! Great team work and fabulous fun had by all!
We have been taking part in our whole school competition to design our 60th anniversary logo! We thought of all the important features we would need in our designs to make them bold and stand out, whilst also delivering a clear message of what we are celebrating this year!
Our third Primary 4 star of the week goes to someone who is always willing to lend a hand to others and is managing to achive beautiful handwriting! Well done Alice!
Another part of our 60th anniversary fundraising project ideas is to design a mascot for our school! We have been busy setting up a competition for everyone in the school to take part in. The winning design will be made into our very own mascot!! How exciting indeed!
We have had so much fun creating a story map for our latest writing piece titled, 'Lost and Found' this week! We boxed-up the story into five different sections in order to make it easier to create our doodles needed to make our detailed story maps!
We have been thinking of fundraising ideas to help celebrate our 60th anniversary and came up with the idea of getting self-portraits of every pupil in the school onto a commemorative towel. We made our own success criteria that we intend on sharing with the other classes in the school. Here we are creating our own self-portraits in order to demonstrate fantastic examples to other classes when they will be asked to join in too!

We have been having fun learning about place value up to 1000. But then challenged ourselves to go up to millions!! Wow we have place value superstars in our class!
We have made a good start on learning our French pronunciation of numbers 0-20 this week and we are that eager to learn more we are going to challenge ourselves to go all the way to 100!!
Primary 4 have made a fabulous start to their joined up handwriting this week. A lot of us thought it was so relaxing and cannot wait for our next lesson together!

We have been given the honour of being a part of the local literacy and expressive arts project titled Cura Guardian! Cura means 'to protect or protector' in Gaelic. We are going to be learning about lots of environmental stories which also ties in scientific and historic stories about native animals to our area. We hope to make literacy and artwork for an exhibition towards the end of term as a treat for all of our friends and families! Stay tuned for updates on here and our google classroom! This week, we took part in an online introduction to listen to a couple of stories and to get a glimpse into what we will be getting up to!
We have been busy working on our brand new class charter in class this week, where we have been setting expectations on what we want our classroom environment to be like, in order for it to be a safe space and effective place for the best possible experiences for learning to occur. We discussed what should be expected from children and also what should be expected from adults in our classroom. All of this is linked with our Rights Respecting Goals. Here we are creating our Class Charter robots for our classroom display. We will share our finished creation with you soon, once all of our robots are complete!
