Primary 3/4's Learning Overview
Find out what's happening in our class this term.
Primary 3/4 were delighted to welcome you to the classroom and show off what learning has been happening this term! We've been diving into some important topics, particularly focusing on how to manage our emotions. Using the Emotionworks programme, we've been exploring ways to help ourselves feel better when things get a bit overwhelming. The children have been actively engaging in discussions and activities that equip them with strategies to navigate their feelings. It's been wonderful to see their progress and how they’re learning to regulate their emotions. Thanks for joining us on this journey!

We have been learning about
Cũra Guardian.
Primary 3/4 and Primary 4 had an amazing time together, as we undertook an Art Attack project! Using loose parts, we created a life-size image of Cura Guardian, the badger and protector of the earth. It was such a fun experience delving into transient art, which is all about making imaginative pieces using bits and bobs that aren’t fixed in place. This means our artwork is temporary, reflecting the idea behind ‘no glue’ or land art. Everyone got involved, and it was wonderful to see creativity come to life with nature at the forefront. What a fantastic way to express ourselves!

Sometimes we play Boggle and Spelling Tennis as a morning starter to see how many words we can make. It’s a fun way to get our brains thinking and start the day with a bit of friendly competition. Everyone gets into the spirit, and it always sparks some good giggles!
This week in class, we’ve been having a fantastic time with our sound of the week! After introducing our new sound, we’ve been practising our wraparound spelling, which really helps us grasp the concept. We’ve been listening carefully to words, using our phonics skills to build them, and then sharing our work with each other for some peer assessment. It’s been lovely to see everyone supporting one another and learning together. The excitement in the room as we create words from just a sound is infectious! Keep up the great work, everyone! Here’s to more spelling fun next week!
This term, we’ve been diving into poetry techniques! We’ve explored similes, tapped into our senses, and crafted acrostic poems. One of our highlights was writing an acrostic poem about what autumn means to us. It’s been a fantastic way to express our thoughts and feelings creatively!
The Rainbow Serpent is a pretty awesome figure in Aboriginal culture! It’s the protector of the land and its people, but watch out—if it’s not respected, it can cause storms and floods as punishment. This shows how important it is to respect nature and its traditions. What a wild story!
This week, we’ve been learning about making compromises as part of our lessons on the blue cog regulation strategies to help us feel better. The children took part in role play in groups, acting out various scenarios to practise how to reach a compromise. It was a fun and engaging experience!
This week in class, we've had a fantastic time playing dice battle games! Not only have we been taking turns and having a laugh, but we've also been sharpening our mental maths skills and boosting our addition abilities. It's been a brilliant way to learn while having fun together!
During Maths Week, we had a fantastic time using the iPads and Chromebooks to take part in the Sumdog Challenge. Everyone was really engaged, and it was great to see the class working together to improve our maths skills. A brilliant way to make learning fun!
Today, we shared a fascinating story about Gloria, who arrived in our class feeling lost. But was she truly lost, or was it loneliness she felt? This tale sparked a brilliant discussion on adding description to our writing. Let’s dive into how vivid adjectives can transform our stories into exciting adventures!

There was excitement in class today when the children got the opportunity to see a bird's nest! It was fascinating for them to observe the intricacies of nature up close. The wee ones were buzzing with questions and curious about the little eggs. A truly delightful experience for all!
