Well done to P2A for working so hard this week - the 'A' definitely stands for awesome! We concentrated on the i_e sound in spelling building words and writing sentences. We continued work on our chicken factual piece in our writing lesson. We continued to work on the four factor numeracy strategies and are now bridging a 10 when adding up to 100. We started working on weight for measuring looking at vocabulary - lighter, heavier etc. For our topic we learnt about food from animals and food grown in Scotland. The class did amazingly well at Sports Day on Wednesday! Finally congratulations to all our Star Award winners this week 🤩
A shorter week with the inset day, but just as busy for our P2s! We've been working hard on dividing and multiplying by 2, 5 and 10 in numeracy as well as practicing measuring with a ruler and metre stick. We started our factual writing project by creating a fact file about chickens. This was a follow up to our chicken life cycles for our project work. We worked in pairs for reading for information. For RME we learnt about the 5 k's of Sikhism. In P.E we've been preparing for Sports Day next week - lots of running and obstacle course practice!
Week 6 has been actioned packed for P2A! 😊 We've been busy continuing our Living Things project by learning about what things need to survive and grow as well as animal life cycles. In numeracy we have been working on adding numbers up to 100, mental strategies and measurement. We practiced lots of measuring with rulers and started our class height chart. Our sound this week was 'a_e' and we worked on building our stories using a beginning, middle and end. For art we finished our butterflies and started our colourful chameleons 🦎🌈
Well done P2A for another awesome week full of lots of fun learning moments. We continued our Living Things project with World Bee Day on Tuesday and the butterfly life cycle. We concentrated on creating story plans in writing - beginning, middle and endings and the 'sw' for spelling. For numeracy we continued with mental addition and subtraction strategies to 100 using tens and units. We also did height in measurement (see photo for height order of class! 📏) We created beautiful butterflies in our art lesson. Thanks to P4 for visiting for another paired reading session 📚😀
What a busy week we've had in P2A! We continued our Living Things project by looking at the life cycle of a frog. We also drew our own frogs in art along with accompanying lily pads and flowers. For music we sang and did actions to frog themed songs 🐸 In numeracy we continued working on numbers to 100, counting, ordering and sequencing in 10s, 20s and 30s. We also started length in measurement, estimating and using our vocabulary - 'longer', 'shorter' and 'the same'. We have been working on the sounds 'sm' and 'sn' in our literacy lessons. Finally well done to our star award winners who received certificates in assembly on Friday - you are all so helpful in class!
Well done to P2A for working so hard this week! We concentrated on the 'st' and 'sp' sounds in literacy and wrote a story about a very slimy play park! We continued building our knowledge of numbers up to 100 including ordering and sequencing. We created our own Marvellous Medicines, copying George from our class novel. We acted out creating them in groups and drew our own medicines in bottles. The class did an amazing job of performing the school children's rights song at the infant assembly on Friday - great singing and actions by all! 😀
Week 2 has been actioned packed for P2A! We focussed on the 'sk' sound for phonics and rhyming and practiced our 'sk' words in writing. We've been working on place value in numeracy and continued grid references with some map work. We started our Living Things project focussing on what we know, want to know and our wildflower gardens. We also had a visit from Ana from the UHI to talk about plants. In our art lesson we finished our cherry blossoms (see photos).
Welcome back for Term 4 everyone - the final term in P2 before becoming big P3s! 😊 We've had a busy start to term for literacy practising our sounds tr and sc and story writing. For numeracy we were working on our numbers before, after and between 100, mental strategies and grid references. Other highlights of the week included starting our cherry blossom art by creating Chinese vases and branches, practising running for sports day and Baillie Cup, team games and discussing meanness online for digital citizenship. To cap off the week we practised our Rights Respecting song (see photo for our Hip Hooray ending 🤩).
What a lovely final week of term we have had in P2A - well done to the pupils for working so hard all term and achieving so much! This week we finished off our data handling in maths and continued dividing by 2, 5 and 10. We finished off our Healthy Me Project with teeth brushing and resilience. We ended the week with some lovely Easter activities including making Easter chicks and designing our own Easter egg. Have a lovely Easter break all, we look forward to seeing you in Term 4!
It’s been Careers Week at Lochardil Primary School this week. P2A were lucky to have two visits from Mairi who runs The Drawing Room gift shop and Mairi and Jo the paramedics. The children really enjoyed learning about the two different jobs including the skills required. For phonics we’ve focused on fr and gr this week. In numeracy we’ve been working on multiplying and dividing by 2. With Ramadan coming to an end, we looked at how Muslims celebrate Eid and created decorative lanterns. Well done to our two star award winners who received their certificates at achievement assembly!
Another busy week in P2A. We continued timetables this week in Numeracy, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We also worked on Venn Diagrams for data handling. We concentrated on the sounds br and cr for phonics. For our Healthy Me topic we focused on Effects of Exercise, 'People who look after me' and 'I've got this' (resilence and wellbeing). We created some spring flower art as we head into Spring. P6B also visited us on Friday for a Red Nose Day quiz and the pupils designed their own red noses for the competition set by P7.

We also read The Dot in class by Peter H Reynolds and created artwork from our very own dots.
P2A started their timetables this week in Numeracy, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s! We concentrated on the sounds fl and gl for phonics. For our Healthy Me topic we wrote about our bedtime routine, and what will help us get a good nights sleep. Tying into this we learnt about how to take a break from digital devices with our new routine Pause, Breath, Finish Up, acting out the roles of parents and children. We also drew fruit for our Eat the Rainbow artwork and looked at symbols of Islam as part of Ramadan. Thursday was World Book Day - we visited the book fair and on Friday the P4s joined us for our first paired reading session.
Another packed week of learning activities in P2A. We've continued working on our number knowledge, including doubles and near doubles. Our sounds this week were bl and cl. We visited the P4 class on Friday to try out their magnet games. In Religious Studies we focused on Ramadan and what they eat when not fasting. Well done to our Star Award winners at our achievement assembly! 🤩
A short week with half term, but we packed a lot into our two days. We continued with our numeracy data handling topic, practised our handwriting and did a writing piece based on Room on the Broom. We danced and sang along to healthy eating songs, did a Joe Wicks keep fit and had a visit from Magic Allan with his Road Safety show.
P2A have had a busy week! We finished our emotion art – having read The Colour Monster we matched colours to our emotion faces from last week (Mental Health Week). The class used water colours to create their backgrounds.
In PE we did team games on Tuesday and continued our circuit training on Friday as part of our Healthy Me project. We focused on jumping and stretch exercises including sit-ups, bunny hops and compass jumps.
P2A continued their phonics work this week with the o-e magic 'e' sound. We worked on mental maths strategies and started our data handling topic in numeracy ahead of our next high quality assessment. We started looking at names of body parts in our Healthy Me topic. As part of Mental Health Week we created our class motivation chant and did an exercise on how our emotions are like the weather (in Scotland - four seasons in one day!).
