This week in P2B we drew Max the hedgehog, our main character from our class book 'The Hodgeheg'. The book follows Max as he tries to find ways to cross the road safely like humans do. We used twigs and leaves to create a background and give him spikes! We also looked at his emotions throughout the chapters that we have read so far and how this impacts his motive to find a way for him and his family to be able to cross the road. This links with our topic of Lochardil Life as we learn about the importance of road safety. To see P2B's lovely creations of Max and what else we got up to in the week you can click above on Term 1 Week 4 for more!
This week in P2B we looked at the story of 'Have You Filled A Bucket Today?' by Carol McCloud. In the story it describes everyone having their own invisible bucket of kindness and the impact positive and negative actions can have on ourselves and others. These are described as 'Bucket Fillers' (showing kindness through words and actions) or 'Bucket Dippers' (treating others in a negative way through words and actions). We created our own buckets that through out the rest of the term we are going to fill with random acts of kindness that we do for others. The dipper and filler terms have also been used in class to help resolve conflicts and remind us of the rights of the child in Health and Wellbeing lessons.
This week in class we have been looking at the sound 'ow'. This has been a tricky sound for us as it can be used in either 'follow' or 'down' - so we have been focusing on which sound is right in each word! To do this we have been using active literacy stations to consolidate our learning on these words!
We also love to use Geraldine the Giraffe to start our new sound journey which the class really enjoy!
We have had such a busy last week of term in Primary 2B! We have been so focused and hard working on our numbers this term and it is amazing to see it all coming together!
We also went on our first trip to Lochardil Woods, where a Highland ranger showed us how to look for sign of wildlife and what we can do to help our community woods!
Using the TopMarks game 'Paint the Sqaures' we had so much fun working out the missing numbers in our 100 square.
Numicon has been a resource that we have used a lot to learn about our place value of the ones and tens columns.
Our trip to Lochardil Woods was a big success and we enjoyed learning about local wildlife and our community!
Term 2 has been such a busy term for us in P2B! Below are photos in the dedicated weekly folders for you to view on what we got up to!
Our topic in Term 2 was 'Celebrations' and we learned about the Hindu celebration, Diwali.
We learned about the Rangoli's that are painted at front doors to invite Rama and Sita into their homes so we gave it a go outside with chalk by oursleves or in groups.
In Term 2 we learned about time in maths and used lots of resources to learn how to tell the time at o clock and half past in digital and analogue form. We loved using the big clocks and working in a variety of stations to help consolidate our learning.
Happy 2025 from P2B! We looked at what the term 'New Year Resolutions' meant to everyone. We then wrote our own class resolutions on our stars of an area of learning we want to get better at this year and work hard in!
These are now displayed in the classroom for the children to reflect on in upcoming lessons!
We are still continuing with our learning on skip counting in 2's/5's/10's. We have done this in various station activities like 'fill in the blanks' above! This is written in chalk pens by the teacher and the empty spaces are filled in with whiteboard pens by the class!
This station is well enjoyed by P2B!
Active literacy is carried out in spelling lessons. Like the painting station above, the class are given their spelling words and are tasked with writing these words in lots of different ways to learn how to spell their weekly words! We then test ourselves using 'Look, Cover, Write, Check' and a small spelling test to see how we have got on!
On Thursday P2B thought that Miss Noon wasn't feeling the best as I 'forgot how to write'. They became doctors for the lesson and had to find all my mistakes in the story I had written (full stops, capital letters, finger spaces and find the adjectives).
We had so much fun with this task!
In maths this term we are covering money. To begin our topic stations were set up! The one above was sorting all the coins into their correct piles; 1/2/5/10/20/50p's and 1/2 pounds.
This week we have wrote our first adjective focus stories that were a great success! At the end of our writing time the class took a teddy from the reading corner to read their story to! P2B really enjoyed this and it helped them identify their adjectives and to make sure that they included all the correct punctuation in their writing!
The Land of Roar is a children's book written by author Jenny McLachlan. It follows twins Arthur and Rose on an adventure in the magical, imaginary Land of Roar...but is it imaginary or real?
The themes in the book include facing your fears, courage and imagination.
The class have been thoroughly enjoying The Land of Roar and are interested in the characters and are predicting what they think may happen in the book!
Do you think The Land of Roar is real?
We focused on our addition skills with the added 'p' and '£' sign thrown into our sums to explore money addition.
After we practised our addition we identified what coins would be used in the sums!
It was Robert Burns' birthday this week and we explored lots of his poems. We created tartan birthday bunting to hang in the classroom and while listening to the poems.
We also looked at Burns Night and what people do on this night to celebrate him!
With Chinese New Year beginning we were treated with a traditional Chinese dance. The class really enjoyed seeing the dragon up close and learning about Chinese New Year.
It was a little too rainy on Tuesday so we tried some fitness YouTube workouts by Jo Wicks suited for the classroom and salamander yoga!
We are looking at basketball in our PE time on Friday mornings. This week we focused at dribbling and throwing/catching the ball!
This week we have taken all our sounds that we have learned in P2 and placed them into a bingo grid! Lots of sounds sound the same like 'ai' and 'ay', which we have looked at and the class had to figure out which was the right sound!
