Fri 19 April - Understanding Human Sexuality
I recognise that how my body changes can affect how I feel about myself and how I may behave. HWB 2-47a
Children are introduced to the concept of human sexuality.
Identifies positive things about one's own body image and appearance.
Recognises the impact of puberty and developing sexuality.
build a positive sense of self.
From the RSHP resources for parents:
"The children are continuing their learning about relationships, sexual health and parenthood. We will be working together on an activity about human sexuality. Sexuality is described as being about what we feel, what we do and is something that exists within ourselves. The purpose of talking and learning about the idea of human sexuality is so that children develop an understanding that sexuality is not just about ‘having sex’ – of course this is something that adults can also do as part of their sexuality, but we would like children to think of themselves as unique individuals with feelings and relationships and opinions that matter. The more we can build a positive sense of self and of human sexuality as part of the person, the more we can build skills and resilience for personal relationships. To support this learning the children think of human sexuality as a flower with petals that represent different aspects."
Fri 26 April - How adults plan and prevent a pregnancy: contraception & condoms
I am able to describe how human life begins and how a baby is born. HWB 2-50a
I know that all forms of abuse are wrong, and I am developing the skills to keep myself safe and get help if I need it. HWB 2-49a
Gives reasons why contraception may be used, for example, to prevent pregnancy and infection.
From the RSHP resources for parents
"The children are continuing their learning about relationships, sexual health and parenthood. We have already learned about how human life begins, thinking about conception, pregnancy and birth. We have also learned about what sex is. Children at this age also have questions about contraception and condoms and so we will be sharing some information with the children about what these things are. "
Fri 3 May The Roles of Parents and Carers part 2
I can describe the role of a parent / carer and the skills, commitment and qualities the role requires. HWB 2-51a
Children know that all families are different.
Children understand and explain the role and qualities of a parent/carer.
We will look at challenges and rewards associated with parenting and pupils will imagine themselves as parents.
Me as parent or carer • How will I make sure my child is healthy? • How will I make sure my child is happy? • How will I make sure my child is safe?
Please contact the school if you have any questions.
