We had a great morning for our final Lochardil Sports. Congratulations to Niamh and Niall, our new Sports Champions. Campbell and Paige were our runners up. It was lovely to see such special sportsmanship and support for everyone taking part.
Our House and Vice Captains were fantastic helpers this afternoon, at the infant sports and with tidying up at the end. Thank you from everyone.
Thursday 6th and 13th June at the IRA for any P7s.
Thank you so much to Duntelchaig House and Vice Captains for organising our Red Nose Day celebrations this year! We had a great time dancing, painting our noses red and beating the goalie. A fantastic figure was raised for Comic Relief.
Our fabulous team of P7s attended the Rotary Quiz this year, coming joint 7th place! They did really well, answering questions on themes such as maths, science, technology, geography and the written word. Our team did us proud with a positive attitude throughout; they definitely looked like the team that had the most fun! And well done to our reserve who joined a team of reserves from other teams and came joint 5th!
We celebrated Pi Day today by looking at this incredible number. We measured circular objects to prove that the circumference divided by the diameter always equals 3.14 (making allowances for our measuring!). We also created a Pi Chain, using a different colour paper link to represent each number to 100 decimal places. And we had a Pi champion competition, where Campbell was able to recite Pi to 42 decimal places!
Despite the weather being awful, both P7s had a fantastic day at Dunmaglass Estate, hosted by the Royal Highland Educational Trust! The day welcomed 150 young people to the estate for a day of farm and estate experiences.
In the morning, we visited the farm, meeting the cows and hearing all about beef production. We loved exploring the farm machinery and asking lots of questions! We also met some of the sheet, learning about the history of the flock, getting up close with one feisty sheep and trying the virtual lambing machine! And we learned all about the properties and benefits of wool as a sustainable product. Unfortunately our sheep dog demonstration had to be cut short due to the weather, but our P7s were as excited as P1s for their farm visit.
In the afternoon, we moved up to the estate buildings and learned more about the different types of income generation. We met with people from the Woodlands trust to hear about the different types of trees and their uses. We had a fantastic session with SSE, talking about the renewable energy on the estate. We got to try their VR headsets, putting ourselves on the top of a wind turbine! And we learned about the deer stalking and animal care, hearing about how they maintain a healthy deer population and how their venison gets from Hill to Grill. We even got to sample some of the venison which was delicious!
Thank you so much to the RHET staff and volunteers, and to Dunmaglass Estate, for giving us this fantastic opportunity.

Our P7s loved their Christmas party today! There was dancing, games, food and music. Everyone looked fantastic in their festive attire and we all had a brilliant time.
This festive season, we have been using the Christmas to inspire through our problem solving lessons. From making the longest paper chain from 2 sheets of paper, to Taskmaster style Christmas challenges, our learning has been fun, collaborative and challenging.
Our P7s had their first taste of the IRA today as they attended the annual IRA Christmas Ceilidh! Although we were nervous at first due to the size and number of people, everyone agreed that "it was actually fun" and "it was better than I thought it would be!"
P7A created these beautiful poppies to mark Armistice Day on 11th November.
P7A have been extremely lucky to be working with local storyteller and dancer Sita Kumari last term. Our school has been working with Sita as part of the Heartstone project and were involved in the official launch of the project. This year, our P7 class have been working with Sita to develop a performance piece relating to the story and life cycle of a dragonfly in the Highlands of Scotland. And this week, we performed our dance for the school, parents and invited guests. This project took us way outside of our comfort zone, but we were really proud of the results.
We are now well underway with term 2! Here is a link to our Termly Overview for term 2, detailing our learning opportunities, topics, events and ways to help at home.
We had lots of fun and raised lots of money at our Dress Up Disco. Our stalls were busy and everyone enjoyed taking part. Our DJ's did a super job of games with super music and dancing in the hall. We were very well supported and received positive feedback. Lots of great teamwork and cooperation made our event such a success. Thank you to our parents/ carers for helping us with the supplies for our stalls and for the staff who came along to help.
We took our maths outside today and drew huge Place Value charts on the playground. Then, we practised sliding to the left and sliding to the right to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 (to the tune of Cha-Cha Slide. One hop this time!)
This term, we have really helped our P1 buddies to settle in to school. Today, we took them outside for the afternoon and played lots of really fun games with them, as part of our work on leadership skills! Our buddies loved the parachute, the fox and chicken game, and Duck Duck Goose!
As part of our problem solving, each group had to build a bridge spanning a gap of 40cm. They had a budget of £100 and could buy paper, paperclips and sellotape. We then tested each bridge to see if it could hold the wait of toy cars. We worked on creative skills and experimentation, as well as team work and budgetting.
As part of our "Getting to Know You" activities, we had a snowball fight! Everyone wrote 3 facts about themselves on a piece of paper, trying to pick facts that others might not know. Then, we screwed up the paper and threw it around the classroom, before finding a snowball and trying to fin d out who the facts were about.
Do you know who went to Blackpool in the holidays, who's dad drives a lorry, who's favourite food is pizza or who's dog is allergic to it's ears and it's paws?!
