We were delighted to see so many parents and families in our classroom this week! They joined in our teambuilding and leadership activities and there was a great atmosphere. We built towers out of spaghetti and playdough, and others without touching the cups. We drew pictures blindfolded and built out futures out of lego. And we debated whether we would rather live without electricity or running water, or would rather have a head the size of a watermelon or a kiwi fruit!
Our class have loved using their sketch books this term, bought with our Parent Council money (thank you!). Today, we were sketching leaves and looking at how we can use shape and shading to make them look realistic and twisted. Click the arrows to view all of our pictures.
This week is Maths Week Scotland and our P7s helped our P1s explore maths in the outdoors. We played with some of our playground board games, teaching counting and cardinality - relating objects to numbers. We are took turns and used our problem solving skills. We are helped the P1s find shapes around the school in a 2D shape scavenger hunt, and created symmetrical butterflies with chalk and loose parts. Click here to see more photos.
Today we had our first campfire of the year! We made delicious s'mores over the fire, sang some songs and played Chinese Whispers. We have lots of plans for other things we can make throughout the year.
We had so much fun this afternoon playing playground games in the MUGA. We were practising lots of games to play with our P1 buddies, including using the parachute. One P7 even said "I feel like a P1 again!" We might think we are all grown up but no-one is ever too old for a parachute!
This term, we are writing a dramatic piece of writing called The Chase. To help us use our body sensations, we combined running laps with writing what we were feeling and where on our bodies. This really helped us to describe what the character was experiencing. And it was really fun!
Today's maths game was Chocolate Chip Cookies. This dice game not only requires addition and multiplication skills but also strategy and logic. An easy game to play at home too.
This week, we had our first go at using the BBC Microbits. These programmable devices use coding to show images, make sounds and detect the world around it. Today, we programmed the Microits to show different emotions with buttons A or B were pressed. We were also challenged to add another emotion when the device was shaken, and to make happy or sad noises depending on the emotion.

We were really lucky today to have a visit from Elli Carlisle from NatureScot. She has been part of developing a tool for recording, tracking and analysing school grounds across Scotland and we had a morning using our chromebooks to add our own school grounds to the map. We took photos and measurements of lots of our school features, which will now be available for us to analyse and improve, and for others to investigate too.
Today we played Knock It Off! In this dice game, you have to write down the numbers 1 to 12. Each player then rolls two dice and uses the numbers on the dice to rub numbers off their gameboard. They can use the numbers as they are, add or subtract, multiply or divide. The first player to rub all their numbers off wins. This game helps with basic maths skills but also strategy and logical thinking.
Today we started using our new sketchbooks! We have looked at styles of lettering and graphic effects on the front and today we looked at ways to create shading. We also learned about different types of pencils. We hope these sketchbooks will be something we will be proud of all year.
