Friday 18th November 2022

We have had a ball today taking part in all of the Children in Need activities that have been organised  by our lovely P6 pupils!  At our last count we had raised over £700!  Thank you so much everyone for your generous donations of money and delicious baking!

We have been learning more about global warming and COP27 in Primary 1!  We made super global warming art pieces using oil pastels.

We had a lovely visit from our P2 class today as they were showing us wonderful books they had made for us.

We had an amazing time at our first trip out of school to Vue Cinema today as part of the Into Film Festival!  We were so excited and absolutely loved the Julia Donaldson films called Zog and the Flying Doctors and Superworm!

Our latest phonics sound is 'f' and we have been practising writing our 'f' letters and have made fabulous flowers and fantastic fish!

We have been busy recalling the wonderful fireworks displays we witnessed at the weekend so we decided to learning about the reason why we celebrate Bonfire Night and made some awesome Binfire Night pictures of our own!

2nd November 2022

We have been learning about climate change in class this week and have been making art pieces to celebrate COP-27.  We were so sad to hear of the poor Polar Bears and Penguins losing some of the habitats due to the earth warming up and melting their ice homes.  We decided to make some Polar Bears and Penguins to raise awareness of their plight.

31st October 2022

We combined Halloween with our new phonic sound today!  'G' is for ghost!  Lots of spooky ghostly sounds could be heard from the P1A classroom today!

27th October 2022

We have been learning all about the Hindu festival of Diwali.  We really enjoyed the legendary story of Rama and Sita and we have been busy making some beautiful Rangoli patterns.

Friday 7th October 2022

The Ashie House Group put on a super event for us for the last day of term!  We had face painting and nail painting and beat the goalie and more football games in the gym hall!  We had a super time and all completed in bright colourful clothing to raise money for us to buy some more playground equipment!  Thank you for all of the donations and thank you Ashie House group for the fun activities!

It was so lovely to welcome back all the parents/carers for our first open afternoon of the session!  Primary 1 were so excited to have you in our classroom and to show you what we have been getting up to so far this term!  

Tuesday 4th October 2022

We had a fun morning listening to BBC Authors Live, where Rachel Bright was reading her brand new book, The Gecko and the Echo'.  We already like lots of Rachel's books and a few of us have 'The Squirrels who Squabbled' and 'The Lion Inside' at home!  After listening to the new story, we got a chance to meet Jim Field who is the illustrator of the book and he taught us how to draw Goldie the Gecko from the story!  We had lots of fun doing this task and enjoyed listening to all of the questions during the live stream.

We had an important visitor from the SSPCA Education Team today called Kirsty in our classroom.  She was teaching us about all the things we need to do to care and look after a pet rabbit.  We asked Kirsty lots of interesting questions about microchips and we were able to discuss lots of things that rabbits can eat that is healthy.

A HUGE well done to our first Star Pupil Award given out at celebration assembly this afternoon!!  Someone looks very happy indeed!

We had a fabulous afternoon with our P7 buddies.  They did a quiz with us and we also played lots of playground games outside too!  It was lovely to see their grown up classroom and we had a wonderful afternoon.  Thank you P7!

We have been doing more work on the 'Three Little Pigs' story in our talk for writing lessons this week.  We were trying to build straw, stick and brick houses. We were also making wanted posters for the Big Bad Wolf!

'N' is for nests!  We have made paper craft nests and tasty chocolate nests with marshmallow chicks for learning our new phonics sound this week in class!  I think it is a resounding 'delicious' as the verdict of our P1 baking!

'i' is for igloo!  We had lots of fun making mini paper igloos whilst learning our latest phonics sound.  Ask us what all the actions are for each sound we have learned so far!

Thursday 1st September 2022

In our Talk for Writing lesson today we were reading the story of, 'The Three Little  Pigs'.  We made actions to go along with the story and can act it out as we retell it to others.  We then got really busy making stick puppets so we can act the story out to our partners!

't' is for turtle!!  We have been learning another new sound this week and have been making fabulous green turtles for our ongoing phonics display!!  Here are some pictures of us in action.  We thought the turtles looked so cute when they were finished!

As promised here is our completed wall display on the beautiful mosaic fish you helped make during our open afternoon.  It is a wonderful page from the book titled, 'The Invisible String' by Patrice Karst.  Such a wonderful book that explains how everyone in the world is connected by love.

We have been learning about being kind to one another and read the book, 'Kindness is my Superpower' in class.  Everyone is kind to each other in P1A and we have a kindness tree in class for every time someone is kind to another pupil in school!  The leaves on the tree are getting quite full already!

We have been doing lots of learning about our emotions since the start of Primary 1 and we have even made our own mood monsters!  Every day we do an emotional check-in so we know how each other is feeling and we are able to change our mood monsters throughout the day so we can look after one another and how we are feeling.

We were joined by some of the P7 buddies this week during our PE time.  We had so much fun playing lots of team games with them!

It was wonderful to meet all of the parents/ carers on Friday during our open afternoon.  The children loved showing you all our P1 setting and how quickly we have all settled in!

We have been having super fun with our P7 buddies all this week!  They have helped us at break time to have fun in the playground; they have been eating their lunch with us and they have even made us wonderful cards to welcome us into Primary 1!  They are truly super and all of the children are really developing strong relationships with their P7 buddies already!

We have been busy learning our very first phonics letter sound today.  'S' is for snake.  Ask us to do the action to the song we learned today to help us to remember our first sound!

Tuesday 16th August 2022

We had a super first day in P1A today!  We met had fun in the classroom and settled into the long school day really well.  I think you can tell by the happy faces below that everyone had a super time!
