ALLTNACRICHE MEDICINES FORM
KIT LIST
This term, one of our groups have enjoyed reading “Goodnight Mr Tom.” This is set in World War 2 and is the story of an evacuee from London, who is evacuated to a small village, where he lives with a widower. The film follows the development of their relationship.
“Why is Goodnight Mr Tom a PG?
There is mild bad language ('bloody, 'damn', 'hell'). A main character is a victim of child abuse; it is implied that he is beaten with a belt and is seen being beaten by his mother, leaving him with injuries.”
If you do not give permission for your child to watch this film today, please notify us by 10.45 am.
Thank you
M Murray
We drew and painted daffodils today. We used our observation skills as we looked at some daffodils picked from around the willows. We used watercolour paints in complementary colours. Our paintings have cheered up our walls for the next few weeks.
It's been a busy few weeks with Duntelchaig House Captains organising some Red Nose Day fun for all of us. After making our own red noses, we had to complete an obstacle course and see if our noses could stay on the whole way. The school raised £240 for Red Nose Day.
We welcomed family and friends along to our World War 2 Open Afternoon today. It was great to share our work with everyone. We made more carrot cookies, exhibited our Anderson Shelters, our posters, our evacuee diary accounts and our Book Creator work. Thank you to everyone who supported us.
14.03.23 STEM workshop for Science Week
As a follow up to our P6 visit to the UHI, we enjoyed working on coding and programming the Lego Robots today. Tim Ashwell was our workshop provider. The challenge was to programme our Mars "Rover" to find water (ice) .
We also finished our Blitz chalk drawings.
13.03.23 Open Afternoon
You are invited to our Parent/Carer Open Afternoon on Tuesday 21st March from 2.00 pm - 2.45 pm. Pr 7 will be hosting an exhibition of some of their World War 2 work. This will take place in the Dining Hall. We look forward to welcoming you along.
We had great fun making our Anderson Shelters today. We used lots of skills for life and work: problem solving, cooperation, time management, resource management, supporting and encouraging, teamwork, developing ideas and keeping on task. They look fantastic. Some groups managed to try out some interior design too. Well done - a very productive morning.
Well done to our Quiz team who managed to score 90 points at the Rotary quiz last night. There were 12 schools taking part with Cradlehall winning the shield and going throught to the next round.
We have just had Pancake day and decided to keep the baking theme going with a WW2 rationing recipe. We have been finding out about why rationing was necessary and which items were rationed. We know how rations were given out and we looked at some of the propaganda used to persuade people to grow their own and not waste anything. We made carrot cookies and thought they were quite tasty.
14.02.23
We celebrated Valentine's Day by thinking of refugees and those caught up in the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. We wanted to show love and solidarity for those who are in desperate circumstances and in need of a home, safety, health care and food.
We used the School of Sanctuary colour (orange) to show our love and thoughts for those in need. We made orange hearts and wrote messages of love and hope.

TO PARENTS/CARERS OF P7

Dear Parent/Carer
INTO FILM - The Railway Children Return
An educational experience has been organised for your child. The “Into Film” Festival is a free, annual, nationwide celebration of film and education for 5-19 year olds. We recognise the value of digital literacy to engage, enrich and broaden your child’s experience of “texts”. We can teach comprehension, character study, plot analysis, moral values, cultural diversity, grammar and story through film. This film also supports our Social Studies World War 2 topic in Term 3.
SYNOPSIS (Certificate PG: This film has contains instances of violence, racism theme, threat, language, rude humour and dangerous behaviour)
Set in 1944 at the height of World War II, life in British towns and cities is becoming increasingly dangerous. Three evacuee children – Lily, Pattie, and Ted – are therefore sent from their Salford home by their mother to a rural Yorkshire village named Oakworth. There to meet them at the train station are Bobbie – who had undertaken a similar journey exactly 40 years before in the original film – as well as her daughter Annie and grandson Thomas. With their help, the evacuees soon begin to settle into life in the countryside. But when they discover an injured American soldier hiding out at the railway station, the children set out on a perilous quest to help their new friend who, like them, is a long way from home. ‘The Railway Children Return’ is a sequel which arrives more than half a century after its much-loved predecessor, exploring similar themes around friendship, community, and displacement.
If you have any further questions, then please contact the office. Return the attached slip if you are able to help.

Transition to Millburn Academy 2023
Please find the attached information of relevance to those families wishing to attend Millburn Academy next session.
We have been recognising some great pupils who have been showing our school values in and out of school.
Rudi and Lewis were recognised by a member of the community who emailed us to share some news of how the boys had shown kindness and thoughtfulness.
Caitlin has been a fantastic support to the PSA's in the playground. She is such a help with the Pr 1's and even has one or two of them waiting for her at our classroom door at breaktimes!
We have been finding out about refugees and asylum seekers, which will help us understand our class novel, "Divided City" better. One of the characters is an asylum seeker. We worked in groups to choose 9 UNCRC articles which we felt that refugees and asylum seekers might be denied.
Mr Morrison from the IRA is teaching us handball for PE. He brings equipment from the IRA and we are developing our interest of a new game.
P7A have been learning about shade and tint to create these eye catching pieces of art related to our book study - Divided City.
Please read the Learning Overview for P 7A to find out a bit more about how we are running from day to day and our bigger plans. Some important diary dates are also included.
We have our House and Vice Captains sharing their motivational messages at assembly and they are wearing their new badges with pride!
We are trying to establish our routines and settle in to the new term. We helped the P 4's to complete our HMIE pupil survey, once we had finished ours. We are delivering the dinner bands and helping with office duties too.
We are enjoying the extra responsibilities and being part of the school in this way.
It was such a lovely way to start back at school today by spending time with our Pr 1 buddies. They all looked so smart and grown up in their uniforms. We played with them at break and lunch and made them a buddy card. We will help them again tomorrow and then see how much help they would like on Thursday and Friday.
We are sitting in our House groups and already gathered some house points with some achievements. We tried a quiz about how well we knew each other and are creating a House group poster for our table groups.
