Today was Safer Internet Day focusing on the theme 'Too Good to be True'. The children participated in lots of rich and relevant discussion regarding scams, phishing and how to protect themselves and stay safe online. We then took part in a fun, live BBC lesson with schools around the country where the children became Scam Smashers!
Last week was Children's Mental Health Week and the theme for this year was 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself'. The children took part in a creative and relevant art activity which encouraged them to learn more about themselves by imagining a plant in growth. First, the children reflected on the roots of their identity, what is important to them, special memories, places, people and what helped them grow. Then they thought about what is growing from these roots, the type of person they want to be and what will help them to grow and flourish as they get older. I was extremely impressed with the thought and care that went into this learning task and they should be commended on their efforts.
Well done to Luke and Alexis for being voted Stars of the Month!
Alexis has been impressing everyone with her engagement in class discussion and effort in learning tasks and Luke was recognised for showing courage and resilience. Congratualations to both of you!

Happy Burns Night! On Friday, Primary 7B were highly engaged in baking some typically Scottish Cuisine!
They used their skills from various areas of the curriculum such as working out fractions and quantities of ingredients, examining units of measurements, measuring quantities, creating their own cooking safety rules as well as reading instructions carefully. What I was most impressed with was the way they worked together in groups. They demonstarted leadership, support, encouragement, patience (and perseverance!) and problem solved in a positive way when they inevitably came across a hiccup or challenge in the process. They also demonstrated initiative - a group of boys decided to set up their own washing and drying system which was highly efficient!
They finished the day by delivering a confident performance of three well known Scottish songs (which we turned into a medley) at Assembly.
Next week, we will develop our writing skills further by creating some recipes. Well done, everyone!
Primary 7B Termly Class Overview
Please see below the termly class overview for P7B.
Well done to the class for a great start to term and I hope that they are looking forward to what lies ahead!
Miss O'Rourke
Today was our Christmas Lunch. We helped our P1 buddies to pull their crackers and shared with them the Christmas stories we had been writing just for them. It was a lovely day and a delicious lunch! CLick on the photo to the right to see more photos.
We had a fantastic time at our P7 Christmas Party. We played lots of games including Musical Arms, Pass the Parecel and Corners. We also did some dancing including the Canadian Barn Dance and the Gay Gordons. We were really pleased to have some great S5 and S6 helpers from the IRA to support us. And a huge thank you to all the families who donated our delicious party food. We are definitely in the festive spirit now!
Our class had a fantastic day at the UHI where we learned all about energy. We explored what energy is and how energy exists in lots of different forms. We created chain reactions pass energy from one form to another. We also used electronic components to build circuits. It was a really great day. Click here to see more photos from the day.
A huge congratulations and thank you to Ashie House Team for organising our Children in Need event on Friday 15th November. The team held a dress down day and ran stalls and activities in the muga. They raised the fantastic sum of £351.42!
Well done to our Lochardil Girls Football Team who competed in their first tournament of the season this weekend! They did really well and showed real determination and team spirit. Great representatives for our school. Well done!
Thank you to everyone for working so hard to make the disco such a great night. We raised lots of money and had lots of fun. Our stalls were so well organised and the discos in the hall were great too.
Fantastic teamwork. We are very proud of how well you did. Mrs Scotson had a fire and marshmallows for us this afternoon as a treat.
We wrote a story and made some puppets to help dramatise it. We wanted to share this with our buddies at the end of term. We worked together in small groups which helped to develop our young leadership and teamwork skills. We were creative, solved problems, used good communication skills and were encouraging and supportive to each other.
The buddies enjoyed seeing us and liked all the different ideas and stories we shared with them.
We enjoyed a lovely autumn stroll down to the Archive Centre and found out about the range of services and support which an Archive Centre provides. We all loved being in the strong room with miles of documents all stored securely. The "repair shop" was fascinating and shared an essential part of the Centre's work.
We were able to look at a range of old photos, newspapers, maps and documents to help us understand some of the important events which have shaped Inverness and brought positive change. We looked at a copy of one of the speeches given at the opening of our school and the invitation which was given out for Nov 1964.
It is a fascinating place and we remembered lots of facts and information from the Archivist's visit in P6.
Thank you to Mr Ross, out parent volunteer and to the staff at the Archive Centre for a very interesting afternoon.
Please remember to have a packed lunch with you on Friday. We will be having an early lunch before we head off at 11.45 am. Thank you.
Well done to Kenny on his first successful Chess Club session! We had 4 really exciting games on the go and sorted out all our chess sets for next week. Chess Club is available for all P6s and P7s on a Tuesday lunch time so come along and test your strategies!
Thank you so much to the House and Vice Captains who represented our school so well yesterday at the Kirking of the Council. We paraded through the streets of Inverness with our flag before attending a church service at Ness Bank Church on the theme of Kindness. Then we were invited back to the Town House for a reception where we met lots of VIPs and enjoyed some lovely food. We are so proud at how well you all represented the values of Lochardil. Click on the picture to the left to access more photos from the day.
We are all settled in and had a busy week supporting our buddies. By Friday, we were able to take them round the school and they were independent with the dining hall routine. They might need some extra help with getting round to their lines on time, but we love looking after them.
