Welcome to our P7B Class Blog

P7 Carnival

We were so proud of our P7 leaders today, running stalls for the other classes as their P7 Leavers Carnival!  We had face and nail painting, a letter hunt, a feely box, arts and crafts as well as basketball and Beat the Goalie!  Some of our classes were sad to leave after their slot.  I was particularly impressed at how our P7s made the younger children feel, celebrating their attempts and successes so enthusiastically.  A great way to start Leavers Week.  Click on the photo below for more photos, and even more to follow!

Anderson Shelters

Today, we spent an amazing day being creative and in teams, make these incredible Anderson shelters.  Our shelters had to be strong, historically accurate, camouflaged and with a view inside, and our teams had to communicate, negotiate disagreements, give everyone a job and take into account everyone's views.  We were very proud of our creations! Dunkirk Rafts

This week, we have been learning about Dunkirk, how 380,000 soldiers were evacuated from a French beach in 1940 by hundreds of small boats.  We made our own rafts, and I was so impressed by the knot-tying skills on show!  We tested our rafts to check if they would float, stay together and carry weight!

21/03/22 Sunflower Art

Today, we used the Sunflower as our inspiration to create these beautiful pieces of art.  We used pastels and considered scale, layers and shading.  These will make a fantastic addition to our Ukraine display!

Virtual Open Morning

Welcome to our Virtual Open Morning!  We are delighted to share with you the work we have been doing recently on World War 2.  Today, we made Carrot Cookies and there should be a delicious parcel coming home for you to try!  We have also written letters home as if we were evacuees.  And we had great fun dressing up as evacuees too!

09/03/22

Today, we took our learning outdoors and used natural materials to explore angles in a triangle.  It was trickier than we expected to make exact angles but as well as measuring and drawing, we learned that there are 180 degrees in a triangle, equilateral triangles have 3 equal angles and Isosceles triangles have only 2 equal angles.

Our Support Balloons

As part of Children's Mental Health week, we are thinking about those people in our lives that help us to grow, that support us and lift us up.  Our balloons are created by creating a network between those important people.  Click the arrow to see all the photos.

Pride

We have a wall in our classroom dedicated to achievement.  Achievement happens in lots of different forms every day, whether tiny steps or massive leaps, a hand raised or a new maths skill mastered, getting in the swimming pool for the first time or  winning a gold medal.  I am immensely proud of everything that my class achieve every single day.

03/02/22 Time to Talk Day - Tea and Chat

Today is Time to Talk Day, so our class had a cup of tea (or hot chocolate), a custard cream and a natter.  We talked about whether we would rather lose our hearing or our sight and whether we were skiers or paddleboarders.  We also had a class meeting where we shared things that we wanted to change.  Everyone wants to make this a more regular thing!

6th - 7th January - Columba 1400 Leadership Conference

Our P7 classes are both taking part in the Columba 1400 Leadership programme, developing our confidence, resilience and leadership skills.  The first two days of term, we ran our own Columba 1400 Leadership conference.  We talked about values and the values that are most important to us.  We revamped our class charter to reflect the values we want in our class community as well as what we bring and need from others in our class.  We also created these fantastic Values Shields to link our personal values to our rights and Global Goals.

On Friday, we looked at what make a good leader, thinking about different types of leadership and designed our dream leader or boss.  We agreed that we wanted a leader who could communicate, who asked for other's opinions and could motivate and encourage others.  At our next conference, we will look at how we can develop these skills in ourselves.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from everyone in P7B! Do you like our Lochardil Christmas jumper?

Alcohol

We have been learning a lot about alcohol this week, including the short and long term effects of alcohol on our bodies, and how we might react in different scenarios involving alcohol.  We have created these fantastic alcohol information leaflets, thinking about presentation and persuasive tone as well as the information we include.

Click here to see photos of our leaflets.

This week, we started our new topic looking at Substance Misuse.  We discovered that cigarette smoke contains over 5000 chemicals including tar and chemicals found in poison, batteries and glue!  We created these 3d cigarettes and when you open them up, you can discover some of these chemicals.

Outdoor Classroom Day - Maths

This morning, Mrs Scotson's maths class took part in Outdoor Classroom day, using natural materials to play Nim.  The idea of the game is to take either 1, 2 or 3 of the playing pieces away at a time until your opponent is left with the last piece.  Our pairs worked out their own strategies to make sure they won each time.  Then, we played a whole class tournament to determine our Nim champion.

29/10/21 - Promise to Our Planet

This week we have been thinking about how we can make a difference to Climate Change and, inspired by the Scout Associations Promise To Our Planet campaign, have created our own climate change commitments.

AND our Cauliflower Christmas Cards are due this Friday, so if your child has designed a christmas card that you wish to order, please fill in the online application and return the form and card design by Friday of this week.

Due to a change in timetable for next week, PE will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week instead of Tuesday. Please make sure you all bring PE kit on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. Back to normal the following week.

25/10/21 - Rosebowl 2022

Each year in Primary 7, we undertake a significant piece of personal research.  This personal project can be on any topic that you are interested in, and that provide an opportunity to research, learn and share your findings.   Rosebowl proposals, a document to share your plans, are due on Google Classroom on 30th November 2021 and completed Rosebowl projects are due by 31st March 2022.

This week, we have put out instructions and advice on what this project should contain and some hints and tips on how to make it your best work.  This is available on Google Classroom or by clicking here.  We have also looked at some examples from previous years for inspiration.  There will be time in class to work on projects and to practice the skills needed to complete projects, and time should be spent at home also.  Please don't hesitate to ask for help, resources or advice.

Happy researching!

Our Class Charter

P7B had a great first day back at school today, their first day of their last year at Lochardil!  We made Good Luck cards for our buddies and met them in the playground at break time.  We also developed our Class Charter,  based around the computer game Tetris.  After playing the game, we realised that the aim of the game is similar to the aim of our class - no matter the size, shape or colour of the bricks, they will all fit together.  We made our own Tetris board with qualities we expect from ourselves, from others in our class and from our teachers.
