🪂Our Science Egg Drop Challenge! 🥚

We have continued with our Forces theme in SCience this week by undertaking the 'EGG DROP CHALLENGE!'  We used out prior learning of gravity and air resistance forces to try and see if we could protect an egg from cracking when dropped from a height in our playground!  The PLANNING, DESIGNING and CREATING was taken very seriously indeed!  Here are some pictures of us in action and stay tuned for videos we would like to show you during our open morning so you can find out which groups completed the challenge with eggs still intact!

🤖 UHI Robot Visit 🤖

We had the most spectacular time in class when Robotic Engineer, Mr MacIntyre, came to visit us from the UHI campus!  He brought some of his robot friends to show us and even let us have a go of some of them!  First of all we met Meccanoid who was able to dance and speak!  Meccanoid was quite cheeky and wasn't doing what he was told at times! 🤣  Then we got a treat of Mr MacIntyre flying a drone around our classroom with lego Catriona attached to it!  Finally we were able to undertake some coding of our own with a cute little robot named Botley!  We are hoping to make links with Mr MacIntyre so that he will come back to do some more STEM projects with us next term!

🌟 Our Stars of the Week! 🌟

After listening to pupil voice within our class, we have decided to pick not one but TWO stars of the week each week as it is just so hard to decide every week as we are all a bunch of super stars in Primary 4!

After a very busy and exciting week at school our sixth Star Pupil of the Week for  being a kind and caring pupil to his friends by including them and ecouraging them to play in the playground this week.  It is truly wonderful to know that our class has a friend like you!  Well done!

Our seventh Star Pupil of the Week for being extremely hard working and giving maximum effort across the whole curriculum!  You have been recognised by your class mates for all your hard work!  So proud of you and keep it up!

Friday 15th September 2023

It has been an extremely short week this week, but we have still got up to lots of learning over the past three days!  Have a look below!  It was wonderful to hear what you had got up to during your long weekend as well!

Our Mindfulness Journals

We have many different 'Start of the Day' tasks, but we quite enjoy putting entries into our Mindfulness Journals.  This is time for us to reflect on our personal experiences in and out of school.  We are concentrating hard in these photos to get as much detail into our journals as possible!

⚙️🤖 The Wild Robot and Emotion Works ⚙️🤖

We have been working extremely hard on our upcoming High Quality Assessment Task that we intend to send home to you very soon to discuss our learning with Health and Wellbeing this term.  We have been using our Emotion Works Programme that we use across the school to investigate how Roz the Robot may have been feeling in a particular challenging situation within our class novel.  We are looking forward to showing you and discussing the results of our hard work!

🤔🗾 Problem Solving 🤔🗾

For problem solving this week, we were trying to decode a word puzzle using grid references to give us each letter!  We also had to colour in each grid reference a particular colour in order to make a neat picture mosaic!  Very clever Primary 4s multitasking in this activity!

🤓 French 🤓

Over the past few weeks we have been learning French numbers 0-30; days of the week; and months of the year.  So we consolidated all of our learning together this week to make ourselves birthday cards and inside we wrote in French when our birthdays are!  We have also made a French calendar in our classroom which we will change daily to keep practicing our French days and months and numbers throughout the year!

🌟 Our Star of the Week! 🌟

After a short 3 day week in school, please meet our fifth Star Pupil of the Week for  being a kind and caring pupil to her friends when they got hurt in the playground this week.  It is truly wonderful to know that we are in safe hands!  Well done!

Friday 8th September 2023

It has certainly been a very hot week in school this week, but it has been glorious to have the sunny weather! 🌞 Enjoy having a look at the learning we have been getting up to this week and I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend ahead!  I'm already looking forward to hearing all about your adventures on Wednesday!

🌐🌍 Meet Our Class Reps! 🌐🌍

We held a vote in class to choose our Class Representatives for this year!  It was really difficult as so many of us wanted to do each role but we managed to finally vote for two in each Pupil Representative Group.

Unikids Reps

Pupil Council Reps

JRSO Reps

Health Promoters Reps

Eco Reps

🧑‍🎨Completed Self Portraits🧑‍🎨

We have finally completed our self portraits!  As promised in a previous blog post, here they are on a rolling carousel of pictures.  We are so proud of them , we have decided that we are going to showcase them going up our class stairwell, so everyone coming to visit our class will be able to see our beautiful work!

🎼 Rhythm in Music! 🎼

We have been having a lot of fun and laughter making our own percussion rhythms using our bodies!  We learned that the word 'ostinato' means a repeated rhythm over and over so we were making cool ones ourselves and trying to follow along as a class!  We have also been having fun with 'Incredibox' which allows us to make our own digital ostinatos through beat boxing!  We have been using the free version in school that allows you to use four different themes of the incredibox beatboxers! We have loved using it so far!

💻Chromebooks in Maths🔢

Our different maths groups have been using the chromebooks to enhance our learning in maths and other groups have also doing partner work to continue working on our place value and ordering much larger numbers!  Such a hard working class indeed!

🥳All the P4s Together Time! 🥳

For Fun 31 activities we joined together with the P4 pupils in the P3/4 class!  It was lovely to have some fun together time with ALL the Primary 4 pupils!

🌟 Our Star of the Week! 🌟

We are now half way through our first term of Primary 4!  Meet our fourth Star Pupil of the Week for  being a kind and caring pupil who is always trying her best at everything she does!  Well done, so proud of you

🤩Star of the Month🤩

We had a celebration assembly to finish off our fourth week back at school so here is our first member of our class to receive the Star Pupil of the Month award for doing his best in all areas of the curriculum!  When Mrs Kellacher asked our star pupil what his favourite subject was, he said he couldn't possibly decide as he loves all of his learning in Primary 4 so far!  What a well deserved Star of the Month pupil!  Well done!

Term 1 - Week 3

Friday 1st September 2023

It's quite hard to believe that we are already in the month of September!  Here is all the fun learning we have been getting up to this week!

🎭 Drama 🎭

We had a lovely drama session with Mr Everett who played lots of drama games with us and we had lots of fun learning new drama techniques!

🧑‍🎨 Self Portraits in Art 🧑‍🎨

We have been working hard on sketching out our own self portraits in art this week.  Look at the concentration in those faces!  Such a hard working class and they can't wait to get to the colouring stage next week!

⚖️🪂 Forces in Science! ⚖️🪂

In Science, we have been identifying different types of forces.  Some of the forces we had never ever thought about before and some we didn't even know existed!  Lots of learning going on so stay tuned for some fun experiments in future blogs!

🤔💭 Problem Solving 🤔💭

Lots of hard working pupils working out word problems using a calculator!  We have to use the calculator to answer very complicated sums.  We then had to turn the answers on the calculator upside down to read out the words to complete the puzzle!  It was very tricky indeed so we worked in partners and were so pleased with ourselves when we worked out the puzzle!  What a P4 team!

🤖🌊 Our Wild Robot Topic - Seaworthy Robots Designs 🤖🌊

Roz was very lucky to survive the ship wreck as all of the other robots sank to the bottom of the sea!  Here we are being designers of the future by planning our 'Seaworthy Robots' with added special features, P4 style!  Stay tuned and we will share some of our completed designs!

🌟 Our Star of the Week! 🌟

Meet our third Star Pupil of the Week for comforting her friends when they didn't feel at their best in the playground!  What a wonderful friend to have on your side, I am so proud of you and how kind you have been to others.  Well done!

🤖🤖 The Wild Robot 🤖🤖

We have made a start on our topic this week which is our class novel study on 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown.   Here we are working in pairs to make predictions using picture clues taken from the book, before we started to read.  We got so carried away with the story that we are on Chapter 7 already!  Please ask us what has happened in the book so far!

🤗 Maths this week... 😁

We have been working really hard on place value in maths this week.  We were using interlocking cubes to create amounts in each of the place value columns and testing our partners to see if they could work out the number!  Some of us were even managing to go up to 5-digit numbers!!  Wowzers!

🐠🐟  Rainbow Fish!  🐟🐠

We watched a short animation on the Rainbow Fish and had a lengthy discussion about all the messages that were resonating with us from it.  We created some of our own rainbow fish to make a lovely wall display to show off the main message we learned from the animation....

We are all different kinds of fish.... But at Lochardil, we all swim TOGETHER!!

🎭 Oliver Twist 🎭

We had a wonderful treat from M & M productions who put on a fantastic show of 'Oliver Twist' for us this week.  Thank you to all parents who pay towards school fund contribution as you helped to pay for magnificent treats like this!  This was certainly leaving us 'asking for some more sir!!' 😁👏

French Numbers 0-30

We had lots of fun practicing our French accents doing the numbers 0-30!  We even put our practice to the test by completing a colour by number activity of Elmer the patchwork elephant!  Our Elmers turned out colour-tastic!!  Well done P4!

🌟 Our Star of the Week! 🌟

Meet our second Star Pupil of the Week for showing perseverance and determination in learning place value in maths this week; so much so that she ended up helping others!  What a wonderful way to end the week, I am so proud of you and how hard you have worked to achieve results!  Well done!
