P4 have been working hard over the last few weeks. We have been thinking a lot about our emotions using the Emotion Works cogs. This formed part of our High Quality Assessment task, which went home today. Please can the “home” comment on the feedback form be completed and sent back as soon as possible.
We also worked together to create dramas around the cogs, thinking about how we might behave when we face different triggers and the body sensations we experience.
In Literacy, we have been looking at the long “u” sound and today we started revising magic e. We have been using our describing bubbles to help us write detailed descriptions. We used our new knowledge to write setting descriptions and a diary entry imagining that we were stuck on a desert island.
In Maths, we have been learning all about rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. We have been using our knowledge to help us estimate the answers to tricky sums before we try to solve them.
P4 have continued to enjoy The Wild Robot as our class novel. Recently, we have learned about how camouflage helps animals survive. We also designed our own shelters, like Roz did in the story. We had great discussions about the different materials we would use and the features that could help us in an emergency. We then had a go at bringing our designs to life using the Kapla blocks.
P4 have been learning about rounding in maths this week. We’ve been reminding ourselves about place value and having a go at rounding to the nearest ten with two and three digit numbers.
In literacy, we have been looking at the igh/y/ie sound and have started exploring oa/ow/o. We also had a go at creating our own characters and using a “description bubble” to help us write about them.
This week, we also investigated which areas of the world are hotter. We were inspired by the stormy weather in our class novel, The Wild Robot. We learned about countries around the world and the different weather and climates they have. I was very impressed by the brilliant geography knowledge within the class!
We have also started thinking about what it means to have a growth mindset. We discussed the power of the tiny word “yet” and used origami hearts to help us understand how we can keep practising to help us learn any new skill. Have a look at some of the super posters we created!
Another busy week in P4. We have been continuing our learning on four digit numbers and testing our knowledge on our 2,5 and 10 times tables by trying to beat our Hit The Button high score. We've explored the ey/ee/ea digraphs and started revising igh/y/ie.
We've began reading The Wild Robot and used the early scene setting chapters as inspiration to create our own desert islands. We talked about using a key to help others understand our maps and started discussing the role of compass points. The children had lots of fantastic ideas for their islands and it has been lovely seeing the children share their ideas with such enthusiasm.
P4 have had a brilliant week getting back into our learning. We've been learning how to say and order 4 digit numbers and had a go making our own 4 digit post-it numberline. We've also been revising how to use ai/ay and started looking at ey/ee/ea.
We began thinking about our topic for this term "The Wild Robot". We invented our own robots and created new animals. We discussed how their features could help the animals survive in different environments. I was so impressed by the amazing creativity of the ideas across both activites.
We also explored how to say the days of the week in French and enjoyed BSL with Mr Garden.
To end the week, we thought about all the learning we've done over the last few days and what we particularly enjoyed. These will be displayed in our classroom and updated each week.
Welcome to P4!
We've had a great first couple of weeks in P4. We have played lots of team building games and spent times getting to know our new table groups. We worked together to create our own board games and created some artwork to decorate our walls. We also spent time this week discussing our class charter and agreeing together on the rules we want to all follow to help protect all of our rights.
Have a look at what we've been up to below:
Please see our termly overview for everything we have planned for term 1 in P4.
